As I find rhubarb to be such an elegant crop, I chose to make something which is a bit more evening oriented. This rhubarb bolero – I have been told this sounds a tad naughty, which makes me like the ring of it even more – was cut from an upcycled organza taken off of a damaged vintage prom-like dress I found in a charity shop. I find that the rhubarb dye looks particularlyromantic on sheer fabric, and even more so on this bow-tied garment. Organza is not, however, an easy fabric to sew or even cut. So if you don’t have much experience in working with it, I would recommend cutting this garment from organic organdy, cotton voile, or even very light linen, all of which would produce lovely results. Otherwise, it is surprisingly easy to sew this garment, especially when you consider how impressive the end result is.
